The composition which is primarily lead pencil is highlighted with areas of green, peach, tan, and yellow colored pencil. Notice the subtle warmth to her skin, yellow and green foliage, and rippling water. The work was executed on a blue-green tinted artist cardboard. The drawing is signed on the verso "George T. Tobin" with his address "528 Main St, New Rochelle". The bottom right corner of the verso labeled "Study #1" with written numerals.
