Abraham Soloman Baylinson (1882-1950), Seated Female Nude pastel and charcoal on paper, signed and dated 1939 at lower left, matted and framed under glass. DOA 26.5 x 21.25 in. Born in Moscow, Baylinson and his family immigrated to the United States in 1893. They settled in New York, where Baylinson was able to study at the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Design, and the New York School of Art where he trained under Robert Henri. Working in a modernist style, Baylinson had a successful career and exhibited work at many prestigious galleries and museums including The Art Institute of Chicago, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Detroit Institute of Art, National Gallery of Canada, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
