Selden Connor Gile American, 1877-1947 Pink Trees Inscribed Gile/7029...Rd on the reverse Oil on board 14 x 17 inches Provenance: Estate of the artist Ms. Wallace W. Hall, Saratoga, CA The broad, fluid brushstrokes in Gile's Pink Trees reflect the sincere and heartfelt approach that characterize the artist's depictions of the northern California landscape. A guiding force behind a group of early twentieth-century colorists called the Society of Six, Gile painted the hills and trees around his East Bay home, concentrating with singular force on the representation of the vividly contrasting colors-in this instance, olive green and magenta--that he found in the natural world.
