Ingvar Bergström in 1983 and Fred Meijer in 2008 both seperately agreed that this painting is an early work by Jan van Huysum, in which the influence of his father Justus van Huysum can be seen. Fred Meijer dates the painting to 1707. A painting by his father also dated to this year shows a similar grouping of flowers (RKDimages no. 117383).
