Atmospheric landscape Measurements, framed: 80 x 110 cm Good condition Provenance: Austrian private collection In recent years collectors have shown strong interest in landscape paintings by Adolf Helmberger and his artworks fetch more than 25.000 Euros at auctions The Austrian landscape painter Adolf Helmberger created this atmospheric image of a summer landscape. A sandy path meanders through the rolling landscape. The meadow on the left is slightly yellowish brown due to the sunlight and resulting dry grass; the bushes grow in fresh shades of green. The clear blue sky, interrupted only by light fleecy clouds, rounds off this summery scene. Helmberger often painted his landscapes on large canvases that do justice to the vastness of his place of birth Salzburg. With this painting, too, the artist is successful in capturing the rich colours of summer and the relaxing effect of the countryside. The painting "Summer Landscape" by Adolf Helmberger is in good condition. The coat of paint shows minor craquelure and there are few tiny touch ups mainly along the upper edge. The canvas was relined. The painting is signed and dated lower left, "AHelmberger 1912.". The measurements including the frame are 80 x 110 cm; the canvas measures 70 x 100 cm. The frame displays minor traces of age. Adolf Helmberger (1885-1967) Adolf Helmberger was born in Sankt Gilgen in Austria and studied in Salzburg and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. His teachers were Christian Griepenkerl (1839-1912) and Alois Delug (1859-1930). At the onset of the First World War, Helmberger volunteered as a war painter - he was excluded from service as an active soldier due to defective hearing - and arrived as such on the Russian and Italian fronts. Besides his numerous landscape paintings Helmberger also created several war paintings, which are among the best-known works in his oeuvre.
