Eloie/Mariano Fortuny (lr) Oil on panel 12 5/8 x 9 1/8 inches Widely esteemed for his inventive art nouveau textiles, elegant lamps, and dress designs, Madrazo was born in Granada, Spain, the son of Mariano Fortuny y Marsal, a painter and collector of ancient Oriental textiles and potteries. Madazo spent his career in Venice where he worked in the Pesaro Orfei, now the Fortuny Museum. His paintings consisted of figurative works, images from the theater, and landscapes, in which he used a generalized approach, capturing the atmospheric light and essence of his scenes.
