Broad golden frame, on the frame also signed and with the work number Overall dimensions framed: 73,5 x 88 cm Very good condition Provenance: Private collection Southern Germany Very picturesque landscape at the pond in matching green and gray-brown shades with view over open autumn fields, paintings by Ludwig Dill fetch up to 22,000 euros on the international auction market This landscape painting by Ludwig Dill titled 'Abend in den Wacholdern' (Evening in the junipers) depicts a rolling field landscape under a cloudy sky with groove pond that is surrounded by a dense cluster of shadowed trees in the foreground which opens the view towards the sunlit fields in the background. This beautiful composition is characterized by the reflections of the clouds in the water and the shadows on the grass in the foreground, which create a charming lighting effect. The painting is signed and dated 'L. Dill 1911' as well as inscribed and noted with the work number on verso. It is of very good preservation. The cardboard measures 50 x 65.5 cm, the framed dimensions are 73.5 x 88. The frame shows slight traces of use. Ludwig Dill (1848-1940) Ludwig Dill was born 1848 in Gernsbach. He first studied architecture in Stuttgart and later switched to the Munich Academy of Fine Arts where he studied under Karl Theodor Piloty and Otto Seitz. In addition to that, the landscape painter Adolf Lier strongly influenced Dills landscape painting. He also travelled a lot, especially the Venetian landscapes impressed him very much, and the influences of the Art Nouveau became noticeable in his landscape paintings. Ludwig Dill was among other things also a founding member and later president of the Munich Secession. Moving to Dachau a little later, he established the school of painting called 'Neu Dachau' and was also an important representative of the Dachau artists' colony.
