Leslie Kouba grew up with his two brothers on his family's farm in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He learned about nature from his father, who took him hunting, trapping, and fishing. Kouba is best known for his conservation stamps and for his two winning designs for the Federal Duck Stamp Competition.
