Vernet' Damaged sailing boat in front of a rocky coast In an elaborately designed, ornamentally adorned stucco frame Total dimensions, framed: 23 x 32 cm Good condition This finely conducted marine painting was obviously executed after a motif of the French painter Claude Joseph Vernet (1714-1789), who is known for his view of French harbors. In front of a rocky coast the observer is presented with a dramatic scene - a damaged sailing boat is bowing to the uproarious waves. The painting testifies of great artistic skill in the detailedness and atmospheric coloring. Very dramatic are the swell and the lightening of the rocks. Painting and frame are in good condition. The painting shows a slight, regular craquelé. There are various color touch ups in the water below the ship and in the left image area. There is a small chip in the upper right corner of the frame.
