The scene depicts a stream running through a forest. With thick paint application the artists sets expressionist accents that communicate a wonderful atmosphere of the forest. The painting is mounted in a wooden frame. The frame has got age-related signs of wear and age like scratches. The canvas has been restored in two spots and there are two patches on the reverse. The piece is signed in German with "Hassenteufel Munich" on the upper left. The reverse shows an old sticker from a former exhibition of gallery Del Veccio, Leipzig, No. 21, as well as several hand-written descriptions on the frame of the canvas that measures 64 x 76.5 cm. The overall frame is 74.5 x 87.5 cm. Hans Hassenteufel (1887-1943) The painter Hans Hassenteufel was born 1887 in Hamburg. He studied in Hamburg and Munich. He specialised in still lifes, life painting and landscapes. He is especially well-known for his nude paintings of oriental ladies.
