It shows a farmer's girl on the bank of the brook, leading her goose flock to the water. In the background we can see some houses and the steeple of a small village that is framed by lush trees. Above we can see the sky, whose pale blue colour is reflected in the water of the river at the lower margin of the picture. Regarding the small figure of the girl in particular, the artist has used some shading and reflection effects, which are quite typical for his works. Our painting is signed 'Neogrady Laszlo' at the lower left. The work is in a good overall condition with only small traces of age and use. Accordingly, there are some colour abrasions at the margins of the wooden plate, which however are largely covered by the frame. Regarding the parts of the sky, we can see fine, vertical craquelure. Verso, there are some inscriptions. The wooden plate measures 41.5 cm in height and 53 cm in width. The white wooden frame is in a good condition with only small traces of use. It measures 49.4 cm in height and 60.5 cm in width. Its reverse shows a small label with some indications about the artist. Laszlo Neogrady (1896-1962) Born in Budapest, Laszlo Neogrady started his artistic training at the Hungarian Academy of Arts. He concentrated on depictions of naturalistic and quite atmospheric landscapes very early, whereas he was especially interested in winter snow-covered forest scenes. Neogrady's style is characterised by an extensive use of impasto and a skillful play with light effects. His works are traded and collected internationally.
