Landscape with Clam Diggers. Signed 'E.M. Bannister' lower right. Edward Mitchell Bannister (African American, 1828 - 1901). From a Long Island, NY estate. Clarke Auction would like to thank Anne Louise Avery for her authentication and analysis of this painting, her report with accompany this work. Dimensions: 16" high x 24" wide. Condition: The canvas has been lined, probably within the last 20 years. There are a few minor areas of inpainting in the lower left corner and in the center of the composition, within the rocks, but otherwise the work appears untouched under UV light.
