Signd lower right: Hugo Mühlig DdfHunts are one of the most frequently appearing motifs in Hugo Mühlig's oeuvre, and he painted this particular image in several smaller versions with varying light conditions and figures. Two paintings "Morning Scene before the Hunt" and the similar sized "After the Hunt" show an almost identical detail of a landscape, the former of which showing the most similarity to the present work (cf. Angelika Baeumerth and Wilhelm Körs: Hugo Mühlig 1854-1929. Leben und Werk, Düsseldorf 1997, p. 241, no. 461 and 463).
