작품 상세

Signed lower right: Hugo Mühlig DdfHugo Mühlig was first taught to paint by his father in Dresden before becoming a master pupil in the class of Victor Paul Mohn at the academy in Dresden. The artist's early work was orientated on the realism of Ludwig Richter's school. However, upon moving to Düsseldorf in 1881 he broke with all of his earlier influences and began to paint in a looser, freer style inspired by the Impressionists. Mühlig is known to have painted two images of a snowy, tree-lined street with a bridge in the background. The motif has been recognised as Grafenberger Allee in Düsseldorf, meaning that this piece must have been painted after 1881, when the artist lived in the Rhineland.
