Hugo Mühlig (1854-1929) Hugo Mühlig is internationally the best known representative of the late Dusseldorf School. Originally from Dresden, where he studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts with V.P. Mohn, he moved to Dusseldorf in 1881. Numerous trips in the area allowed him to develop a unique style, which was influenced by the Impressionist movement. His favorite subjects are landscapes in connection with the representation of the rural population. In the Lower Rhine and in Hesse, where Mühlig often spent the summer months between 1883 and1891, he developed a completely unique and distinctive style of painting. His paintings are very bright and animated by a remarkable observation of nature, which transforms his harvest sceneries, winter hunts or fall walks into realistic compositions.
