Fashionable figures in an idyllic river landscapeWatercolour heightened with gouacheSigned and dated 1779Provenance: Thos, Agnew & Sons Ltd, Old Bond Street, London, No. 24914Jean-Baptiste Huet was a painter and engraver of landscapes and figure subjects in the Rococo fashion, and commenced exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1769, many of his works show the influence of François Boucher. In the 1780s he was working on tapestry designs at Beauvais and Gobelins. Ten of his tapestries are in the Louvre, Paris. Examples of his paintings can be seen in the Louvre Museum, Paris, the Metropolitan Museum, New York, the National Gallery, Washington, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Courtauld Institute of Art, London.
