According to Elizabeth Ives Hunter, wife of the artist, "Once Bob felt he was past the student phase he started keeping track of his paintings by making up a 3x5 card for each and numbering the cards. Lemons and Limes was number 131. It was sold to Mr. Donald Bonnist, president of the Donald Art Company for the 'special price' of $350."
