Attributed to Walter Langley R.I., R.S.A., R.B.A., R.W.A. [1852 - 1922] The Toy Boat:- watercolour 92.5 x 74.5cm. * Biography LANGLEY was a student of the Birmingham School of Art. He was the first artist, amongst the late 19th century colony (Newlyn) to take up residence in the town, in 1882, along with Edwin Harris, which heralded the birth of the Newlyn School. Langleys chosen medium was watercolour. This choice may have originally been economic, however his mastery of this medium drew a reviewer of his one man show at the Fine Art Society in 1893 to conclude 'As a master of the actual technique of watercolours, he has few living rivals. The quality of some of his work is matchless - so simple, direct and serene.
