Zeno Diemer' Sheet size: 33.6 x 50.7 cm Very good condition Wide view of a southern coastal town; Diemer's coastal views in watercolor or gouache fetch up to €3,100 on the auction market This atmospheric seascape by Michael Zeno Diemer depicts the view onto a Mediterranean town at dawn. Surrounded by high pine trees, a few villas are lying on the hill overlooking the harbor wrapped in early morning mist. Diemer's extensive oeuvre is characterized by marine and seaside paintings of this kind, whose motifs he collected on his many travels. In the present work the painter was able to create a composition in impressionist manner, which he enlivened with a dynamic brushwork. The work is in very good condition. The left margin with a few hardly noticeable creases. The frame shows light wear. The framed work measures 52 x 69.5 cm, the sheet size is 33.6 x 50.7 cm. Michael Zeno Diemer (1867-1939) Michael Zeno Diemer studied at the Academy in Munich under Gabriel von Hackl and Alexander von Liezen-Mayer. After studying he travelled along the coasts of southern Italy. The artist initially gained recognition with his watercolors of the Alps. In 1891 Diemer was represented in the German exhibition in London. Two years later he travelled to New York, where he created a diorama for the World's Fair in Chicago together with Beatus Wieland. Mountains and seascapes eventually became the central subject matter of his oeuvre. After the acquaintance with the director of the shipping company Hapag, Diemer undertook regular voyages during which he found many of his motifs. As a passionate sailor he became a member of the Imperial Yacht Club in Kiel. During his lifetime, the artist took part in many major exhibitions and was honored with several awards. Michael Zeno Diemer was at home in all painting techniques and, besides normal-sized works, created numerous panoramas.
