An oil on canvas attributed to English impressionist Adrian Stokes (1854-1935). The artist used a medium-thickness impasto technique with long, flowing brush-strokes to evoke the image of a simple, rural church. The bottom left-hand corner is signed “STOKES”. The back of the canvas shows a seascape that has been covered with gesso, meaning that the work was painted on a recycled canvas. The painting is in good condition; the canvas is free of damage and paint is intact and free of cracking. The painting is placed within a gilt frame, which has minor damage, mostly in the lower corners. Measures 26 by 27.5 inches.
