As well, the use of light and color shows the influence of the teacher. Condition: The painting is in good condition, showing slight craquelure affecting the impasto paint as well as minor framing marks. The paint surface is slightly discolored. The inspection under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching to the lower part and major touch-ups to the sky. The frame shows only the lightest signs of use. The dimensions of the painting are 73 x 114.5 cm, and the frame measures 91 x 133 cm. Karl Paul Themistokles von Eckenbrecher (1842-1921) The German landscape and marine painter Karl Paul Themistokles von Eckenbrecher was born in 1842 in Athens. As the son of a naval officer, he grew up at various locations, including Athens, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Constantinople and Potsdam. In Düsseldorf, he received private lessons in painting by the famous landscape painter Oswald Achenbach, who influenced him deeply. Eckenbrecher traveled to many parts of Europe, especially Norway, and the Middle East as well as Africa and the Philippines. All these impressions are visible in the motifs of his paintings.
