작품 상세
MAGGI, CAESARE 1881 Rome - 1961 Turin First Morning Light in the Aosta Valley near Challand St. Victor. Oil on canvas. 76 x 110cm. Signed lower left: C. Maggi / Challand St. Victor. Framed. Cesare Maggi, who was firstly educated by his father when he was a young man, comes to Turin over the study station Florence, Naples, and Paris. He establishes himself in Turin and is henceforth counted among the Piedmontese school. Particularly the strong influence of Giovanni Segantini leads him to the group of Italian divisionists whose motifs and techniques he adopts. Views of the highlands are his most convincing works. The present, large-format painting presumably originated in the late 30s and after his work period in divisionist technique. It depicts Challand St. Victor with the parish church's steeple, nestled in the Aosta Valley.
