Oil on canvas, relined to the upper edge Jules Frédéric Ballavoine (c. 1855-1901) – French painter Signed 'J. Ballavoine' upper right Dimensions: 53 x 40.7 cm Stucco frame: 82.5 x 71 cm  Condition: The painting is discolored, consistent with the age and shows rubbed spots due to the frame along the edges. Craquelure and marks can be seen overall and small loss of color mainly in the upper part. UV light reveals retouched spots on figure and background and two restored spots at the upper edge, where the canvas is relined on the reverse. The frame had been carefully repaired. Jules Frédéric Ballavoine (c. 1855-1901) The French painter Jules Frédéric Ballavoine worked firstly as a technical draftsman before he started to study at the École des Beaux Art in Paris. Among his teachers were École des Beaux Art in Paris. Ballavoine's oeuvre contains portraits, landscapes, nudes, genre paintings and historical scenes.
