There is a tear (3 cm) to the lower margin. The inspection under UV light reveals major touch-ups to the lower part of the painting. The frame is a bit chipped. Ivan Godlevsky (1908-1998) The Russian painter Ivan Ivanovitch Godlevsky is well recorded for his decorative landscapes. He studied at the art school of Mirgorod. In 1927 he moved to the Kiev Art School and followed lectures on Art Nouveau with Fedir Krychevsky. Afterwards, he attended the Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in St. Petersburg under Semen L'vovi? Abugov, Aleksandr Aleksandrovi? Osmerkin and Viktor Michajlovi? Orešnikov. From 1949 to 1956 he was a professor at the University of Applied Arts. Godlevsky has been regarded a Russian Fauvist, amongst others. He painted mainly landscapes, partly with architectures, as well as views of St. Petersburg, Pskov, Izborsk and Old Russian cities, but also portraits and still lifes.
