About the artist: Edouard Agneessens, (Belgian 1842-1888), was a Belgian artist working our of Brussels, St. Petersburg, and later Brussels again. Agneessens studied at the Academy Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and in 1869 won the Prix de Rome.
