Edith Anne Hamlin (Dixon) (1902-1992) watercolor entitled "Alamos, Sonora". In 1937 Hamlin married the much older Maynard Dixon who passed away nine years later. Alamos, Sonora, Mexico has been a wealthy colonial town but had fallen into ruin in the early 20th Century until the 1940s when Americans and artists helped begin a gradual restoration of the town. This watercolor was most likely painted during this time (early 1940s) when they were married. Signed lower left "Edith Hamlin" and "Alamos, Sonora". Excellent condition.
