Angela Tomaselli (1943, Brezoi, Vâlcea) Wandering and hungry dogs acrylic on canvas; signed lower right, in gray: A. Tomaselli 70 x 100 cm This work is part of Angela Tomaselli's "Fables" cycle, a stimulating subject for the artist that we often meet throughout her creation. The work refers to Nichita Stănescu's poetry "On the top floor" and the artist transcribes the following verse in the work: "… the city is moving away - harnessed to stray and hungry dogs". The work is reproduced in the album Angela Tomaselli made by the Association of Italians in Romania, Ed. RO.AS.IT., Bucharest, 2017 on page 98. "The fable cycle began with this dog scratching at someone. I play with the line, in a kind of surreal automatic dictation and then I give it meaning, when it seems to me that it is approaching something. ” (Angela Tomaselli, Association of Italians in Romania "Angela Tomaselli", Ed. RO.AS.IT., Bucharest, 2017) “It is about the broader allegorical compositions and animated by an exciting epic and at the same time polemical breath, with enough comic and dramatic accents, some marked gesturally, untimely, others parodic / caricatured, elaborated with a remarkable spectacular and playful verve, inserted in his emblematic cycles of "Subjective Mythologies" and "Fables", with their more recent and allusive appendix entitled "Politi-chiens." (Corneliu Antim “Memories of Angela Tomaselli”, Ars Longa, no.6, 2012)
