When John was young his brother got a set of oil paints. He never used them so John began to use them. Meeting artists on the cape showed him how to think about painting a landscape. For John the thrill of painting anything is to be out in nature and have the experience of being outdoors and painting from life. His approach to painting is simple, he works with a brush or a palette knife. He starts with large masses of color spots and begins relating them one to the other. Until they begin to express what John visually has been studying, “Much like the way a conductor arranges his orchestra." John is represented by the Egeli Gallery in Provincetown.
