Sebastian Pether (English, 1793-1844), Moonlit Cove oil on canvas, signed and dated 1837, presented in an antique gilt composition frame. Stretcher size 18 x 24 in.; Frame dimensions 26 x 32 1/4 in. Sebastian Pether, along with his brother and father, were English painters often referred to as the "Moonlight Pethers." Paintings by Pether are in the collections of the National Trust at Anglesey Abbey in Cambridgeshire; the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut; the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri.
