Conrad Westpfahl in his informal work phase, at the threshold of which he is standing in this painting, creates landscape references by depicting natural forms as they would be seen under a microscope. For example, cellular, tissue-like and amorphous organic structures can be discerned in his works. He refrains from using green tones for the most part, which make the association with nature too obvious, and prefers to use reds and blues. The Blaue Reiter already had red standing for the material, earthly and blue for the immaterial, spiritual. Provenance: purchased at Galerie Regio, March; since then private collection Freiburg i.Br. Conrad Westpfahl erzeugt in seiner informellen Werkphase, an deren Schwelle er bei diesem Bild steht, landschaftliche Bezüge durch die Darstellung natürlicher Formen, wie sie unter einem Mikroskop zu erkennen wären. So lassen sich beispielsweise zellen-, gewebeartige und amorphe organische Strukturen in seinen Werken erkennen. Zum größten Teil verzichtet er auf Grüntöne, welche die Assoziation mit der Natur zu offensichtlich machen, und nutzt lieber Rot- und Blautöne. Bereits beim Blauen Reiter stand Rot für das Materielle, Erdverbundene und Blau für das Immaterielle, Geistige. Provenienz: erworben in der Galerie Regio, March; seitdem Privatsammlung Freiburg i.Br.
