H. Robert Smith (1894-1972) Oil on canvas board, signed lower left and on verso as well as titled “Pigeon Cove”, piece measures 9 x 12 and 13.5 x 16.5 inches w/ frame. The Reverend Dr. H. Robert Smith, rector of Saint John's Episcopal Church, Middle Street, Gloucester, Massachusetts, was a self-taught artist. He was a member of the Rockport Art Association & Museum, Rockport, MA as well as the North Shore Arts Association, Gloucester, MA . He won the L. Edmund Klotz Memorial Prize at North Shore Art Association in 1950, and the John Hilliard Memorial Prize at the Rockport Art Association & Museum in 1954.
