Alastair' (Hans Henning Otto Harry Baron von Voigt), German 1887-1969 - The Peacock; gouache and ink on paper, 30 x 23.6 cm (ARR) Provenance: Victor Arwas Gallery, Editions Graphiques Ltd., London (label attached to the reverse of the frame); The Estate of Jill and Michael Barrington, purchased from the above in 1999 Exhibited: Isetan Museum of Art, Tokyo, 'Beautiful Decadence', 6th-30th November 1997, cat. no.5, touring exhibition to Nara Sogo Museum of Art, Nara, 1998; The Museum of Fine Arts, Gifu, 1998 (according to the label attached to the reverse of the frame) Note: Editions Graphiques Gallery was run by Victor Arwas (1937-2010), specialising in Art Deco and Art Nouveau works. The touring exhibition 'Beautiful Decadence' featured the works of Alastair alongside Aubrey Beardsley, Charles Ricketts, Laurence Housman, Harry Clarke, Sidney Herbert Sime, Willy Pogany and Arthur Rackham. Alastair's work found international fame following the publication of his illustrations to Oscar Wilde's 'The Sphinx' in 1920.
