During the 1980's many Ngaanyatjarra people moved from government outposts near Alice Springs back into the Western Desert to be closer to their ancestral homeland. The story tells of two snakes and two men who travelled north to Karrkurinkitja. As they journeyed, strangers followed behind them, and the snakes fled. Clouds gathered, the water began to rise, and one snake entered an ant's hole for safety while the other, too large to fit, was cut by Kurningka, the boss of the Tingari men, releasing its fat into the earth. Tjapaltjarri began painting with Tjarlirli Arts in 2007 and is a keen Sydney Swans supporter. His mother Mary Gibson, is also a leading Tjarliri artist. @ BOB GIBSON TJAPALTJARRI / Copyright Agency, 2025
