Albert Watson (Scottish, b. 1942), "Alfred Hitchcock with Goose", 1973, chromogenic print, signed, titled, inscribed "Los Angeles Christmas 1973", and numbered "15/25" in pencil en verso, 24" x 20". Attractively matted and framed. This iconic image of acclaimed British director Alfred Hitchcock was the first celebrity photograph taken by the young Albert Watson. Hired in 1973 by Harper's Bazaarto provide a photograph to supplement an article about Hitchcock's (apparently apocryphal) culinary skills, Watson was inspired to suggest an irreverent pose. The editors of the magazine had envisioned the director holding a platter with a cooked goose, instead the photographer encouraged a playful approach. The resulting image of a morose Hitchcock holding a beribboned, dead, uncooked goose was an instant success.
