Vintage gelatin silver press print USA, 1964 Bill Eppridge (1938-2013) - American photojournalist Copyright stamp on verso 'CREDIT TO READ: Bill Eppridge LIFE MAGAZINE © Time Inc.'; also with agency label 'GRAZIA NERI' Image size: 16.5 x 24.3 cm Good condition Bill Eppridge was one of the most accomplished photojournalists of the 20th century; his picture of the wounded Bobby Kennedy is one of the most significant news photos of all time The present photo is part of a series shot in 1964, when the Beatles first toured America. On an assignment from LIFE magazine, Bill Eppridge, just 26, documented the band's arrival at JFK and accompanied the Liverpool boys from New York to Washington, D.C. Here the photojournalist captured George Harrison and John Lennon smoking together. The photographs taken during the six-day tour photos are intimate snapshots of a band tour that would change the course of music. The gelatin silver print shows the copyright stamp 'CREDIT TO READ: Bill Eppridge LIFE MAGAZINE © Time Inc.' on verso; it also bears the agency label 'GRAZIA NERI'. There are further stamps and handwritten notes such as 'Harrison & Lennon'. The print is in good condition considering its age. There is a crease to the upper right, the corners are a little dog-eared outside the depiction. The image size is 16.5 x 24.3 cm and the size of the sheet is 25.4 x 20.4 cm. Bill Eppridge (1938-2013) Since he was a young boy Bill Eppridge wanted to be a photojournalist. In 1960 he received his degree in photojournalism at the University of Missouri. He initially worked for National Geographic and gained recognition with a report on the New York Needle Park. In 1964 he joined LIFE. For the magazine, he photographed the Beatles, young Barbra Streisand, Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan amongst others. He shot pictures of the Vietnam War and the Woodstock Festival, and was the only photographer allowed to visit the wife of Apollo 13 astronaut Jim Lovell. Eppridge gained international fame with his photo of the Robert F. Kennedy slumped on the floor of the Ambassador Hotel kitchen on June 5, 1968, which he took only moments after the assassination. From 1972 onwards he worked for various magazines including Time and Sports Illustrated. Bill Eppridge was honored with numerous awards and many of his photos are now in prestigious museums.
