(FAMILY PAPERS.) Family vacation photo album of Pittsburgh numbers mogul William A. "Woogie" Harris, with related papers. Atlantic City, NJ, circa 1930 William Albert "Woogie" Harris (1896-1967) was a Pittsburgh business leader, known for the Crawford Grill, the Crystal Barbershop, and especially for being the leading banker in the city's numbers gambling. His brother Charles "Teenie" Harris was a prominent photographer. 162 uncaptioned snapshot photographs, each 4½ x 2¾ inches, laid down on 12 detached album leaves (10½ x 13¾ inches). The photographs show a family beach vacation in Atlantic City, NJ; landmarks such as the 500 Club. Approximately 45 of them include Woogie Harris. In two of them, a young boy wears a Pittsburgh Crawfords baseball uniform and baseball glove. An Atlantic City vacation by Harris and his family was reported in the Pittsburgh Courier of 26 July 1930. With--deed for property purchased by Harris from Jacob Kalson at the corner of Epiphany and Townsend Streets for $7800 in 1930, with Kalson's deed from 1923; 6 rent receipts issued by Harris Real Estate, 1948; school tax receipt issued to Harris and his wife, 1967; Health Department permit issued to the Harris Hotel, 1986; 5 loose family photographs; and funeral program titled "Obsequies of William A. Harris" at Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 16 October 1967.
