(ENTERTAINMENT.) Photographs and program of Pittsburgh's elite social club, the Frogs. Pittsburgh, PA, 1913, 1947 and undated The Frogs were founded as a Black social club in Pittsburgh in 1910; their name was an acronym for "Friendly Rivalry Often Generates Success." They remain active today. Includes: Program, "The Frogs in Our Thirty-Seventh Anniversary," [16] illustrated pages including green wrappers, 11 x 8½ inches; minor wrinkling, signatures of several members on cover. Issued for a seven-day series of events dubbed "Frog Week," this program profiles the many celebrities lined up for the Monday "Night of Stars." Illustrated blurbs include Billy Eckstine, Joe Louis, Bojangles Robinson, and Earl Hines--all of whom actually made an appearance per the next day's Pittsburgh Press. The city's white mayor and many local politicians bought ad space in the program to send greetings; the famous Crawford Gill also has a large illustrated ad. Hall of Fame baseball executive Cum Posey is listed among the deceased members; the program lists his Homestead Grays for a "Cum Posey Memorial Scholarship Game" against local amateurs.
