Ottawa, IL: Bowman's New Gallery, [April 1866] Albumen photograph, 3 1/2 x 2 inches, on photographer's mount; minor wear.  Douglass embarked on a speaking tour of Illinois in April 1866 to drum up support for Reconstruction and resistance to President Johnson. He gave two talks in Lincoln's home town of Springfield on 3 and 4 April, and is thought to have had this photograph taken in Ottawa, IL when he spoke there a few days later.
