작품 상세
(CIVIL RIGHTS.) Photograph of John Lewis and Jackie Robinson marching at a San Francisco rally. [San Francisco, CA, 12 July 1964] Photograph, 9¼ x 13¾ inches, captioned in print and manuscript on verso, with no agency stamp; ½-inch chip, otherwise minimal wear. The printed caption reads "Civil rights demonstrators parade up Market Street toward the Civic Center rally point. Nearly 40,000 persons jammed the center in the largest civil rights demonstration in the city's history." A cropped manuscript caption reads "Marching Down Market Street, Pardini photo." Fred Pardini was a San Francisco Examiner photographer; another of his shots from this event appeared in the next day's paper. The next day's Oakland Tribune describes the scene and confirms that the man 4th from left in the second row is Jackie Robinson; John Lewis appears in that same second row at the far left. Ralph Abernathy is marching ahead of them, at left.
