(ART.) Lottie E. Wilson, artist. Photograph of her portrait of Abraham Lincoln and Sojourner Truth. No place, 1902 Photograph, 8¼ x 6 inches, on original plain mount, signed and dated in the negative; cropped irregularly to photograph, moderate wear including 2½-inch partial crease, ½-inch stain. Artist Charlotte "Lottie" Wilson Jackson (circa 1854-1914) was the first Black student at the Art Institute of Chicago, and was based in Bay City, MI and Washington. This depiction of Lincoln with Sojourner Truth, usually titled "President Lincoln with a Former Slave," was her best known work. The original oil painting was given to Theodore Roosevelt for the permanent collection of the White House. We have traced no other photographs or prints of this work at auction.
