PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD Travel Poster (25" x 40"); "Washington: The City Beautiful" ; Fine+ Rolled; Artwork by Grif Teller Pennsylvania Railroad, c.1940 Issued by the Pennsylvania Railroad to showcase "Washington, the City Beautiful," this travel poster is rolled and displays border wear with small creases, tears and scuffs, a reattached chip on the left border stabilized with a piece of tape on the back, a vertical tear on the bottom border with horizontal creases beneath the word "Railroad," and a diagonal crease on the lower right corner. The color palette and design create a beautiful, striking image from the 1940s, and this poster will make an excellent addition to collectors' or Railroadiana collections. The Pennsylvania Railroad (reporting mark PRR), formally known as the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and commonly called the "Pennsy," was an American Class I railroad founded in 1846 and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At its height in 1882, it was the largest railroad in the world by traffic and revenue, as well as the largest transportation enterprise and corporation globally.
