THE LAWS OF THE STORM Russian Poster (41.5" x 41.75"); Country-of-Origin, Stone Lithograph ; Very Fine on Linen; Artwork by Joseph Gerasimovich Sovkino, 1928 This country-of-origin Russian poster, based on the novel "Nine Tenths of Fate" by Veniamin Kaverin, features a striking combination of artwork and photographic scenes. Printed on two panels and professionally linen-backed, this poster shows minimal restoration. There has been expert touch-up work done on parts of the center fold, along with two additional horizontal folds in the right half of the poster and above the center circle to address a small area of paper loss. The borders have been left untouched, exhibiting edge tears and small nicks. Additionally, there is a repaired tear in the lower right corner. Despite these imperfections, they do not detract from the overall impact of this remarkable constructivist poster. "Laws of the Storm" is a Russian silent film centered on Warrant Officer Shakhov, who, during the October Revolution, is condemned to death after betraying the identity of his comrade and mentor, the revolutionary Rayevsky. Adapted from Veniamin Kaverin's novel, "Nine Tenths of Fate," the film is noted for its powerful emotional impact and is regarded as an important work in the development of Russian cinema.
