Etchings Austria, 1975 and 1977 Paul Flora (1922-2009) - Austrian caricaturist and artist Both hand signed lower right 'Flora' One signed dated and titled 'Föhn in der Bayrischen Metropole' in the print The other titeld "Verschneites Schloss (Castle in the Snow)" 35 x 50 cm and 44.5 x 59.5 cm Good condition These two etchings are entitled 'Föhn in der Bayrischen Metropole [Föhn Wind in the Bavarian Capital]', dated 1975, and 'Verschneites Schloss [Castle in the Snow]', dated 1977. They were made by the Austrian artist and caricaturist Paul Flora (1922-2009). Both pieces tell multi-layered stories including subtle humoristic elements. The piece 'Föhn in der Bayrischen Metropole' is in very good condition. The piece 'Verschneites Schloss' shows folds, tears and foxing. The pieces are hand signed in pencil on verso, 'Flora', and the 'Föhn' piece is signed, dated and titled on the front, in the print. The pieces are matted. The pieces measure 48 x 63 and 49 x 63.5 cm with a sheet size of 35 x 50 cm and 44.5 x 59.5 cm respectively. Paul Flora Paul Flora was born 1922 in Glurns, Southern Tyrol. He studied in Munich with Schinnerer and Gulbransson from 1942 to 1944. He worked freelance in Innsbruck starting 1945. He visited Alfred Kubin in Zwickledt, Upper Austria, marking the beginning of an artistically fruitful friendship between the two. Flora was a member of the Art-Club in Vienna and worked with the publishing house Diogenes in Zürich from 1953 onwards. He produced weekly drawings for the Hamburg paper 'Die Zeit' from 1957 to 1971 and was also involved with other international papers.
