JEAN-HONORÉ FRAGONARD Group of 11 etchings after Italian Old Master paintings. Etching, 1763-64. Smallest 115x90 mm; 4 1/2x3 1/2 inches; largest 165x115 mm; 6 1/2x4 1/2 inches, small to narrow margins. Very good impressions of these scarce etchings. With--Danse de Satyres, etching, 1763. Fragonard (1732-1806) visited Italy during the late 1750s, spending the summer of 1760 with his friend and fellow-printmaker the Abbé Richard de Saint-Non at the Villa d'Este in Tivoli. Deeply indluenced by his Italian sojourn, Fragonard produced a series of 16 etchings after paintings by the Old Masters following his return to Paris in 1761. These etchings constitute more than half of his scarce printed oeuvre of 25 known prints according to the Wildenstein catalogue raisonné. Wildenstein 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, and 22.
