The work depicts the head of the French politician of the UDF, who was President of France from 1974 to 1981. The lithograph is signed in pencil with 'L Tuymans' on the lower left, numbered in an edition of '13/100' on the lower right and inscribed on the reverse side. The watermark 'Edition Copenhagen' is visible on the top right and the lower left edge and the watermark 'Arches France' can be seen in the other edges. The color etching is in very good condition with only minor deterioration on the lower margin. The sheet has the dimensions of 76.5 x 56 cm and the image has the size of 27.5 x 41 cm. Luc Tuymans (born 1958) Luc Tuymans lives and works in Antwerp. From 1976 to 1982 he studied free art and subsequently he devoted himself to the study of art history until 1986. His first works were created in the 1980s and show a remarkable visual language and aesthetics. Tuymans's work is characterized by historical and political events that influenced him in his childhood as well as the credibility of images and media in the view of historical memories. Participating in the Documenta IX in Kassel in 1992 also made him famous on an international level and worldwide exhibitions followed. Tuyman is one of the most sought after and influential artists of his generation and has influenced an entire generation of younger painters.
