After Charles De Wolf Brownell (American, 1822-1909), "The Charter Oak", engraving depicting venerable tree symbolizing pre-Revolution colonial resistance, after eponymous painting still in the collection of the Wadsworth Athenaeum (Hartford, CT), artist's name "C.D.W. Brownell" and date "1855" appear outside of stone LL, title appears LC, pen inscribed note on paper backing verso, some scattered foxing, pencil eraser sized discolored dot located around 1" down from tree's outermost right branch, damage to frame LR margin, matted and framed behind glass, not examined out of frame, ss: 12 1/4" h. x 14 3/4" w.
