An exciting contrast create the very small abstract depictions in this portfolio to the size of the sheet. However, they seem not perish but may take the sheet with great Presence despite their small size by the universal simplicity of the organic-looking shapes. The portfolio entitled 'Schoppa' - Rhaeto-Romance for 'soup' - was issued by Edition Luciano Fasciati in Chur in an edition of 18 + 5 A.P. + 3 P.P. copies. The nine aquatint etchings are each signed lower center in pencil 'Not Vital', dated lower right in pencil '1996', and inscribed and numbered lower left in pencil 'P.P. 1/3'. All nine sheets and the portfolio are in very good condition. The plates measure from 1.8 x 1.7 cm to 2.8 x 4.9 cm, the sheets each 40 x 39.8 cm. Not Vital (b. 1948) The Swiss artist, was born in Sent in the canton of Grisons. His artistic talent was early discovered and promoted by the art historian Max Huggler, who spent his holidays in Sent. From 1968 to 1969 Not Vital studied at the Centre universitaire de expérimental Vincennnes in Paris. Subsequently, he educated himself. In the 1980s he also began to work in three dimensions. Until today Not Vital travels much through the world and lives not only in his native town Sent, but also in Italy, China, the USA and the Niger. The impressions of this cultural diversity is also reflected in his work. As materials Vital prefer bronze, gold, aluminum, stainless steel, silver and marble, of which he creates with exciting contrast organic shapes.
