Portfolio with 10 lithographs on paper, 1 lithograph on portfolio cover Germany, 1920/01 Georg Schrimpf (1889-1938) – German painter and graphic artist Edition of 120, including 20 portfolios with lithographs in colors Each sheet signed in pencil lower right and corresponding numbered on the stone Published by Goltz Verlag Munich Sheet size: 34 x 30 cm The present and complete portfolio ‘Van Zanten’s Glückliche Zeit’ by Georg Schrimpf was published in 1929/21 by Goltz Verlag Munich and comprises 10 lithographs on paper as well as one work on the cover of the portfolio. The edition of 120 also includes 20 portfolios colored by hand. The portfolio is named after the novel ‘Van Zantens glückliche Zeit’ of Danish writer Laudris Bruun who published his book about the time in Micronesia and Polynesia under the pseudonym Adrian van Zanten in Germany in 1911. The work is signed lower right in pencil and with corresponding numbered on the stone. The works on paper are in very good condition, the portfolio folder shows traces of age and use. The sheets measure 34 x 30 cm. The dimensions of the folder are 34.5 x 31 cm. Georg Schrimpf (1889-1938) Artist and autodidact Georg Schrimpf lived an itinerant life until 1915 when he moved to Berlin and met Herwarth Walden, supporter of the avant-garde. He acknowledged Schrimpfs artistic work with a solo exhibition in ‘der Sturm’ in 1916. The following year Schrimpf married painter Maria Uhden (1892-1918). In 1921 he became member of the ‘Neuen Secession‘ in Munich and travelled to Italy and Switzerland during the following years . From 1926 to 1933 Schrimpf teached at the Städtischen Gewerbeschule in Munich. During these years he took up the topic ‘Neue Romantik‘ in a series of his exhibitions. Furthermore he started to teach at the Staatlichen Kunsthochschule in Berlin Schöneberg in 1933 and got appointed as a supernumerary professor. A work by Georg Schrimpf made in 1915 got displayed at the opening of the exhibition ‘Entartete Kunst‘ in Munich 1937.
