Serigraph in colors on cardboard Germany, 1968 Dieter Asmus (b. 1939) – German painter and graphic artist Lower right signed and dated in pencil ‘D. Asmus 68’ Sheet size 72 x 58.4 cm Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 400 EUR On a rust brown ground with checked ruling in this serigraph dating in 1968 a flying dove is to be seen. It is depicted in a close up view, realistic and slightly bled and thus obtains a strong presence. All these are typical creative means by which Dieter Asmus creates a new visual reality. The serigraph in colors is signed and dated lower right in pencil ‘D. Asmus 68’. The sheet bears occasional, partly sharp creases and a small stain in the margins as well as two tiny tears (0.5 and 0.3 cm) in the right edge. The overall impression is good. The sheet measures 72 x 58.4 cm. Dieter Asmus (b. 1939) From 1960 to 1967 Dieter Asmus studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg. The prevailing abstraction there, called by Asmus ‘Abstract academicism’, in no way corresponded to the artistic vision of the artist. Along with his fellow artists Peter Nagel, Dietmar Ullrich and Nicholas Störtenbecker Asmus founded the group ZEBRA, with which he showed the first realistic pictures in 1964/65. The formal foundations for this new realism had been developed by the artists in four years of preparatory work. Since the late 1960s, Dieter Asmus is represented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad. In public collections, too, his works are to be found.
