Through the use of light and color, her expansive perspectives capture natural beauty and serenity in the environment. As the wife of painter Eric Fischl, she strives to improve the status of female artists. She has had several solo and group exhibitions in the United States and her work is part of the collection at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, among numerous other collections in North America. Gornik has been granted several awards in her lifetime, including the Neuberger Museum of Art Annual Honoree in 2004, the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Honoree by the Guild Hall Academy of the Arts (2003), and the Award of Excellence for Artistic Contributions to the Fight Against AIDS from the American Foundation for AIDS Research.
